Considerations for Measuring Cylinders
Leave a message
1. Cannot be used as a reaction vessel
2. Cannot be heated
After we wash things, we like to dry them in the oven, but the measuring cylinder is glassware, and heating will deform it, thus affecting its accuracy. Especially repeated long-term heating and high-temperature heating.
3. Do not dilute concentrated acid and alkali
Especially corrosive liquids. In addition, although glass is an inert material, it is not without a little activity. Certain strong acids and bases, especially strong bases, can still corrode it. Therefore, long-term storage or long-term use of graduated cylinders are also inaccurate.
4. Do not store agents
A graduated cylinder is a measuring instrument, not a container, and is not suitable for storing liquids.
5. Do not measure the thermal solution
If the amount of liquid is too hot or too cold, it is not accurate.
6. It cannot be cleaned with detergent to avoid scratching the scale
Brushing of the graduated cylinder is not allowed, because brushing will wear the inner wall of the graduated cylinder, causing the content volume of the graduated cylinder to change, thereby affecting the accuracy of the graduated cylinder. But the graduated cylinders of several more laboratories have not been brushed.
7 No rinsing
Sometimes after we pour, we find that there are many hanging walls in the graduated cylinder, and we feel that the amount poured is not enough, and we are using solvents or other means to rinse repeatedly. In fact, this is also wrong, because the design of the graduated cylinder is considered to be on the wall of the measuring cylinder, and this part of the volume is taken into account, and the volume poured out is the volume we need.
